Batu Caves: doing the tourist thing

Even though I'd been to Batu Caves before, it was so long ago that I have no recollection whatsoever of that first trip way back in 1991 - even typing those digits sends shivers down my spine! So I was pretty much excited when P suggested we pay a visit to the Hindu temple(s) when we had a day off on the 30th of December.

Beside the 140 ft tall statue of Lord Muruga, just before climbing up the stairs.
It's funny how when you first see the stairway up to the the Cave Temple, you think "Oh this doesnt look too bad" and then 272 stairs later... you think you've had enough leg exercise to last you a lifetime.

P gave me a "pottu" although I really have no idea what wearing a "pottu" (that little dot in the middle of the forehead) signifies.

Oh, and watch out for the monkeys while you are making that journey up the stairs. Those cheeky bastards. One of them tried to attack us while we were in the caves.

And of course, this has got to be my most favourite part of the trip. (Indian) sweets heaven!

Mysorpak, alwa, adharasam, jilaebi, ladoo, and my favourite: the palkhova!

It was an interesting experience (albeit a tiring one) and I'm coming back again next month for Thaipusam to see it first-hand, when they do this:
